These pictures were taken on 12/13/98. Images from the restoration of the Washington Monument. Every joint and all the bad stones will be replaced during this 2 year project. The uniqe 2 color surface appearance of the monument will be kept. The reason there are differing shades throughout the monument is that the lime stone was obtained from 4 different local quarries.
