History of Oriole Park in the Camden Yards area of Baltimore. Oriole Park at Camden Yards is nestled on an 85-acre site in the heart of downtown Baltimore. The Camden Yards facility incorporates state-of-the-art features yet has an appearance that is both traditional and intimate. Blending with the urban features in Baltimore, Oriole Park at Camden Yards was fashioned from ballparks built early in the 20th Century. A sun roof over the gentle slope of the upper deck and an asymmetrical, natural grass playing field are but two of the many features that tie the Camden yards ballpark to the magnificent big league ballparks built in the early 1900's. This "old-fashioned" ballpark was designed to incorporate a nearly century-old landmark - the B&O Warehouse, which, at 1,116 feet in length, is the longest brick building in the United States east of Mississippi River. The Warehouse was preserved and renovated and is an integral part of Oriole Park at Camden Yards. |
